Social Work Watch – inside an average day in social work: How social work staff support and protect people, against all the odds*
A big thanks to all of you who managed to respond to our Social Work Watch survey back in April.
In total, 1140 of you took part, sharing the highs and lows of your working day on 29th April – an ordinary day in social work across the UK.
Whether or not you managed to take part this time, we hope you will be interested to read the report
It paints a picture of the incredibly difficult and diverse work UNISON members in social work do every day, and the toll it takes on your family and personal lives. But it also highlights how much of a difference you make to the lives of children and adults going through difficult times.
The report received some press and broadcast coverage at launch and UNISON has been sending it to relevant government ministers, employers representatives, policy-makers and parliamentarians. It has been generally well received with several follow-up meetings set up.
Talk to your UNISON branch about how to take the issues the report raises forward at local level. You could also write to your MP about the report and ask them to raise the recommendations with relevant Ministers.
Finally, we hope to repeat the exercise next year so that we can build a picture of developments over time on key issues like caseloads and cuts.
Best wishes
