UNISON’s Further Education (FE) sector committee met on 22 November 2016 to consider the outcome of the branch consultation on the Association of Colleges’ (AoC) pay offer for 2016/17.
Members had voted by 70% to accept the offer of 1% or £250, whichever is greater, and the committee voted to accept the offer and confirm this to the AoC. The offer also includes information on; proposed joint guidance on closing the gender pay gap, a reminder for colleges on their obligations and joint agreement on the transfer of temporary staff to permanent contracts and a recommendation that colleges consider implementing the Living Wage.
The committee had previously acknowledged that for many staff the biggest issue is whether their college will implement the AoC recommendation. Please find attached a template letter to send to every FE college in your branch to remind them about the importance of implementing the pay award. This should be adapted with local college and UNISON contact details. You will also find attached the indicative FE pay spine for 2016/17.
Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org to confirm whether or not your college has implemented the pay award and whether they are committed to addressing the other elements of the pay offer.
